A sax led quartet consisting of a number of Wales's premier youth jazz musicians; Joe Northwood saxes, Joe Webb piano, Aidan Thorne bass and Lloyd Haines drums. With influences such as Kenny Garrett, Joshua Redman, Mark Turner and Brad Mehldau this is going to be a night bursting with energy.

9:00pm DAVE JONES SOLO PIANO The maestro returns from Port Talbot to beguile us with his lively and rhythmic interpretations of the American Songbook, Latin American standards with a few ballads thrown in to round out the evening and balance the explosive with the relaxing.

9:00pm JONATHAN BRAETOFF QUARTET The Quartet is influenced by many sides of the jazz world, from Coltrane to Jason Moran via the New York downtown scene. The quartet was founded after Bratoëff, Seb Rochford and Pete Wareham studied at The School for Improvisational Music in 2003. The key ingredients are simple, powerful melodies, energetic and vibrant rhythms, rich colourful textures and jazz blended with African, Rock and Latin music. In 2007 the line up changed and now consists of Tom Mason on bass, Mark Hanslip on sax and James Maddren on drums. The group appears whilst ton a Jazz Services tour

9:00pm BRIGIDA AND THE MELLY BAND Brigida together with a trio drawn from the Royal Welsh College (fresh from her appearances at Ronnie Scott’s) will serenade us with a collection of her favourite songs from Gershwin, Cole Porter and Rodgers and Hart together with a few contemporary surprises. Brigida’s jazz/blues roots originate from Germany and London mixed with Welsh valleys heart and soul.

9:00pm CHRISTIAN BREWER WITH JOHN GIBBON TRIO A Cardiff Jazz Society Presentation
Christian Brewer is one of the most lyrical and soulful alto players to have emerged from the UK in recent years. As well as leading his own bands, Christian has worked with Spanish pianist Chano Dominguez and ex-Blakey tenorist Dave Schnitter, Geoff Gasgoine, Damon Brown and reggae star Rico Rodriquez. On this occasion he appears with the John Gibbon Trio while on a regional tour. ADMISSION: £7.00/ £5.00 concessions. |
