9:00pm Dick Pearce Quartet
![]() After Jimmy Deuchar, arguably the greatest of the post-war modern British trumpet players, the man most deserving of the title of heir to the throne is probably Dick Pearce. His influences include Chet Baker, Art Farmer and Don Cherry - which perhaps underpin Dick's often poignant, fragile but beautifully lyrical playing, and equally ferocious but coolly controlled hard bop. His long association with Ronnie Scott produced an all-too rare recording Never Pat A Burning Dog (1990) which features Dick as perfect foil to Ronnie's more straight ahead tenor work. Dick has influenced a whole generation of British trumpeters including Gerard Presencer and Guy Barker. ADMISSION: £6.00 / £5.00 |
