Rhian is a singer songwriter from Beddau in South Wales. In 2007 she independently released her album “Black Sun” a stunning collection of original and classic material to an audience of 350 at the Coal Exchange, Cardiff. The Big Issue wrote ‘Black Sun is a consummate mix of slick jazz blended with genuine passion and Grundy’s voice is a triumph of sultry powerhouse femininity.’ She has performed alongside Katie Melua and James Dean Bradfield amongst others. She appears at Cafe Jazz for the first time along with her superb backing group - Steve Preston - piano, Rob Jones - drums, Donald Sweeney - double bass, Jen Howlett - backing singer. DJ Andy Roberts of Radio Cardiff hosts another evening of Eastern European flavoured music and dance. Featuring Troyka, a Bristol based trio offering an original fast fusion of Balkan gypsy and Eastern European tunes with a touch of Western Gypsy Swing. Harmonica, guitar, clarinet and darbuka make for a unique sound directed at your dancing feet.
